Daniel Blake Smith acquired the life story rights to the incredible true story of Wilmot Collins, who fled civil war-torn Liberia in the 1990s, arrived penniless in Helena, Montana, and became in 2017 the first African-American mayor in Montana history. Collins appeared on numerous national TV, radio, and print news venues when he made a run for the U.S. Senate in 2019, only to withdraw due to insufficient fundraising.
” I can’t wait to turn this inspiring story into a film,” Smith said. He will be traveling to Helena in September to meet with Wilmot and his wife, Maddie, and to begin interviewing and researching the story.
